The C Gallery Opens "Alternative: Organic"

The C Gallery in Los Alamos will be featuring two artists who have an alternative vision of "organic" in the upcoming show, "Alternative: Organic."  Featured artists are Mackenzie Duncan, local painter, and Danielle Satinover, sculptor from San Francisco. The show opens July 10th and will continue until September 8th.  The public is invited to an opening reception for the artists on Saturday, July 10th  from 4 - 6pm at The C Gallery, 466 Bell Street.
A driving force of investigation is evident in both bodies of work.  Mackenzie, presenting a series of paintings of Birch Forests, was inspired by Austrian Symbolist, Gustav Klimt.  Her treatment of the forests, from blurred to psychadelic, reflects her investigation.  Her landscapes of Los Angeles are no less exploratory, pushing limits of "organic."
Duncan was born into a family of artists, and pursued her art at Santa Ynez High School, then onto Yale University, then to Italy studying fresco painting. Currently, Duncan teaches history as well as electives in art and Italian at Dunn Middle School in Los Olivos.  As an artist, Mackenzie says, "I've always reveled in the power to borrow images and ideas from life and art, while simultaneously creating something that is uniquely my own."

Danielle Satinover, San Francisco sculptor, sees it a bit differently. Her art is motivated by solving challenges, and transforming everyday materials into new organic forms, using, however, nothing organic. Always questionning, she wonders, "What would happen if I attached nail after nail together?" or "Can I knit with copper wire?" Her work stretches the imagination. Satinover sees "everything as an art material; everything has its own beauty.  It is my job as the artist to bring this beauty out for others to see."
Satinover's background is California based, graduating from Fairfax Highschool of the Visual Arts Magnet in Los Angeles, and continuing at UCSD, earning a BA in visual arts and media production.  For the past twenty years Danielle has had an active commercial career in media arts, film, television, and photography. She  has received awards from Parsons School of Design, and has works in the permanent photography collections of UCSD. Since her latest discovery of sculpting, she has been part of numerous group shows. Thomas McGovern, Associate professor of Photography at Cal State Fullerton, author, and artist comments on Satinover's work to say," Her results are less about perfection than expression, and more about the unique vision."

Truly, the show, "Alternative: Organic" is a unique vision of organic forms and scenes.  For more information visit The C Gallery online at
